hard roads lead to stronger self-growth

Self Growth – Steps To Growth And Healing Within

Formal education will make you a living; self-education will make you a fortune.” – Jim Rohn

Self-Growth… What does it look like?

Self-growth is something that we struggle with every day. We always try to make the impossible possible. There’s nothing wrong with high expectations… as long as they are reasonable.

Why bother focusing on self-growth so much? Well, besides giving you thousands of reasons, let’s start with some simple stuff. Perhaps you want to try and learn new things but are scared of failing. Replacing bad habits you know that isn’t making you as productive as you should be. Do you want to achieve that emotional balance that can help you improve your relationships?

So if you have seen my recent posts, it’s been about toxic relationships; how to avoid and leave them, and signs that you are possibly in one. I thought it was time we avoided that type of negativity for a while since life is about… well… being happy. Being the best version of yourself is the biggest goal you can ever achieve in life. When you reach that level, your options & goals will seem more obtainable, and the boost of confidence has no limit.

Pushing your boundaries (Stepping out of your comfort zone)

Being in your comfort zone gets you trapped inside the fear of trying something new and different. Moving outside your comfort zone is like the high risk/high reward—mainly high risk in doing something that you never experienced before. So you won’t know how your body will fully react to the experience. Depending on your inclination for risk-taking, your next step may be more or less calculated and gradual regarding your chosen path.

As children, we’re natural risk-takers. But as we get older and learn to fear failure, we start holding ourselves back and attempting fewer new things. We have to remember that failure is a part of life. We learn more from failure than we do from winning.

Travelling to new places and learning new cultures and paths of life in different parts of the world can expand your mind to new perspectives. Then, possibly process and adapt those processes to your daily life.

The only thing that’s stopping you from reaching new heights is yourself. You’ll develop new perspectives and more personality when you push these boundaries. When you get too comfortable, it won’t help you grow; it’ll do the opposite. It will make us stagnate and not see what we are potentially fully capable of achieving. Self-growth is about expanding your horizon on a physical and mental level.

Positive Environment

When you start to surround yourself with positive energy, you’ll begin to draw inspiration from the people around you. You’ll start to learn healthy habits that will help your growth and goals in life. Sometimes even seeking advice from people who inspire you can help get the process going.

We live in an age where people don’t feel wrong at first because their egos won’t allow it. But, sometimes, it can get to a point where you can give them the answer & they still won’t believe it. These are the types of people you want to stay away from because no one knows everything.

The process of you becoming a better individual is being open to the concept of you being wrong so you can expand your knowledge. Staying away from negative energy is crucial to your self-growth. Staying within that atmosphere will delay or even possibly prevent you from growing entirely.

Continuous learning is key to your development. Like a flower, if you stay consistent and keep doing the right thing, you will eventually blossom into something more beautiful. This can include physical, emotional, mentally & perhaps even spiritually.

Patience

There’s no set timeline for you to become this perfect person…. Well, nobody is perfect, but you get what I mean… North America is a very fast-paced society. So constantly moving, with no time to sit down and think about things. So the first thing about flaws is being able to acknowledge them. Then, once you acknowledge them, you can take action and take steps to improve on them.

When we think about top performers such as athletes, musicians, and dancers, we see them push themselves to their limits. They repeat this process repeatedly and constantly make progress, no matter how small the increments are. With these type of people, it’s not just that single moment that defines their accomplishments, but the journey, cycle of hard work, obstacles and challenges they endured and has to overcome. The reward throughout this whole process is a greater sense of self–confidence, learning, respect, awareness and strength.

Don’t focus on being perfect, but more on the progress you are making. Perfection comes with time and patience.

Since we live in a fast-paced society, we feel we can short-circuit our self-growth. We are trying to rush ourselves to become better. You probably have seen sites where it says to “download their program & achieve results fast!”. Please don’t fall for these types of advertisements… it’s pretty sad, in all honesty, that people want to take advantage of someone who wants to become a better version of themselves by saying there’s a quicker way to do it. With personal growth, there is no specific timeline. Significant or tangible change is often seen after a few months to even years rather than days or weeks. Therefore, the process, willingness & dedication to self-growth is crucial.

Conclusion

“We should not judge people by their peak of excellence; but by the distance they have traveled from the point where they started.” – Henry Ward Beecher

At the end of the day, you are responsible for your self-growth. You are going to have days where your confidence is down. You’ll feel like you haven’t accomplished anything towards your goal/goals, so you begin to slack. We have to remember that the best thing always takes time to come. You can’t rush this. As my friend once said, “the best part of success is never the destination but the journey.” You’ll remember the long nights, busy mornings, and tired days of you wanting to quit. Now you’ll look back on those days when you didn’t give up and strived to be the best you could be.

Fear is always part of the game when trying to unlock your full potential. As a result, you’ll start to experience life through a different lens – one you aren’t accustomed to. However, that’s the whole point; If you are still seeing life the same way as it was before, then really was no improvement.

Let me ask you a few questions, and feel free to leave a comment below!

What personal growth goals are you trying to work on right now?

What’s the biggest obstacle you are currently experiencing that’s preventing you from reaching your goals?

What motivates you to keep going?
